Downey Financial Corp. in Newport Beach said today it swung to a loss in the third quarter amid continued weakness in the housing market.
The parent company of Downey Savings and Loan Association said it expects to report a loss of $23 million on Oct. 17 vs. profits of $57 million a year ago.
